Let’s face it, planning a weekend away with the kids can often be a tricky exercise.
While that luxurious villa or romantic secluded cottage may sound perfect for yourself and your partner, when your kids are added to the mix, you’ll need to think a little more carefully about the surroundings and other activities on offer.
So here’s the good news… at Boschendal, we have a wide range of family friendly accommodation to choose from (including that luxurious villa or cottage you’ve got your heart set on).
In addition though, if you’re staying with us, there will be something for everyone to enjoy – from adults, to little ones, and not so little ones.
You probably have a few tabs open right now, searching for options, so let’s dive in and take you through what’s on offer at the farm.
1) Wide Open (And Safe) Spaces
It might sound like an obvious point, but we’re a sprawling wine farm with wide-open spaces for you to enjoy picnics, relaxing walks, or swimming in our pools or even our dam (yes, we have a dam).
Our location means we’re a short drive from the town of Franschhoek, but as you’ll see below, there are so many activities and things the entire family can enjoy, that you could easily spend the entire duration of your stay with us, in and around the actual farm itself.
2) Mountain Biking And Hiking Trails
Tied to the previous point, the sheer size of the farm and our proximity to the Franschhoek Valley means you can bring your bikes (or your running shoes) when you stay with us.
Take in the scenery on one of the various mountain biking, hiking and running trails that will be available to you.
3) Farm Tours
Have you ever taken a tour of a working farm?
If not, you and the family will be in for a treat.
In this guided walking tour, you’ll be given a “behind the scenes” look at what it takes to run a farm.
We’ll give you some insight into the history of Boschendal, as well as taking you through some of our regenerative and sustainable farming practices.
4) Horse Riding (And Pony Rides)
Horse riding through the Cape Winelands? Yes, you can.
Take a leisurely horse-back ride through the farm and enjoy the (pretty spectacular) views of the Franschhoek Valley.
Whether you’re an experienced rider, or you’ve never sat on a horse before, you and your family will be well looked after and will have a memorable (and “Instagrammable”) experience to enjoy.
Oh and yes, for the younger kids (4-7 years) we also have pony rides that will make their day.
5) Events
We have regular events on the farm, from night markets (offering live music, tasty foods, and local crafts) to our drive-in-cinema (an experience not to be missed).
Depending on the time of year, we’ll have something to keep the family further entertained as the sun goes down.
6) The Tree House
This is probably where your kids will be wanting to spend most of their time.
We have a playground, a MTB pump track as well as what’s called an “Outdoor Experience Programme” – in a nutshell, a 2 hour guided farm experiences every morning, mid-day and afternoon that’s been created specifically for kids aged 5-14.
7) Restaurants, Wine Tastings And More
Besides the above, you can enjoy award-winning food and drinks at The Werf restaurant, as well as the Deli, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner menus.
In addition – as we are in the Cape Winelands after all – you can also enjoy a leisurely day of wine tasting, savouring some of our finest wines and accompanied pairings.
