Senior Electrician
The Senior Electrician is the accountable owner for electrical infrastructure, electrical projects, and electrical compliance across Boschendal’s estate.
The role ensures safe, reliable, and compliant electrical systems, disciplined delivery of electrical projects, full regulatory adherence (including Certificates of Compliance), and effective leadership of the electrical team—whether work is executed in-house or through external service providers.
This role is critical to safeguarding life safety, operational continuity, regulatory compliance, and asset integrity across hospitality, farming, rentals, and commercial operations.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDES BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Electrical Infrastructure & Maintenance Management
- Oversee all electrical systems across hospitality, farming, rentals, and commercial properties.
- Ensure reliability and safety of:
- LV and MV distribution networks
- Substations, switchgear, generators, and UPS systems
- Lighting, power reticulation, and essential services supply
Maintain electrical infrastructure in line with:
- Operational requirements
- Asset lifecycle planning
- Risk and business continuity strategies.
- Full Accountability for Electrical Projects / Works
- Project Ownership
Act as project owner for all electrical projects, including:
- Upgrades, refurbishments, and new installations.
- MV network extensions and plant upgrades.
- Emergency remediation and infrastructure stabilisation.
Accountable for
- Scope definition and technical standards.
- Cost control and budget adherence.
- Delivery timelines and quality assurance.
- Delivery & Coordination
Coordinate internal teams, engineers, and contractors to ensure projects are delivered:
- Safely
- Compliantly
- In line with Boschendal technical and risk standards.
- Ensure all electrical works align with:
- Estate infrastructure master plans
- Energy resilience and risk mitigation strategies.
Technical Delivery
Execute electrical installations, repairs, upgrades, and maintenance in line with:
- South African electrical regulations (SANS 10142-1, OHS Act, etc.)
- Municipal by-laws
- Boschendal technical standards.
Maintain professional standards across:
- MV switching and authorisation procedures
- Lock-out/tag-out systems
- Permit-to-work processes.
- Ensure workmanship meets the highest safety, quality, and compliance benchmarks at all times.
- Compliance & Certificates of Compliance (CoCs)
- Issue or arrange valid Certificates of Compliance for all qualifying electrical work performed directly.
Ensure:
- All installations and alterations are legally compliant.
- CoCs are valid, traceable, and audit-ready.
- The estate’s Electrical CoC Register is kept current for all self-executed works.
Act as the technical authority on:
- Electrical safety standards
- Regulatory interpretation
- Audit readiness.
Documentation, Records & Systems Accountability
The Senior Electrician is accountable for disciplined documentation and data integrity, including:
- Electrical asset registers and infrastructure records.
- Preventative maintenance schedules and service histories.
- Work orders and project records in Snapfix / ERP systems.
- As-built drawings, warranties, operating manuals.
- Electrical CoC register.
- Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance documentation.
- All electrical activities must be logged, tracked, and closed with complete technical notes and formal sign-off.
Electrical Team Leadership & Management
Lead and manage the electrical team with accountability for:
- Workforce planning and task allocation.
- Daily operational leadership.
- Performance management (quality, productivity, safety).
Drive:
- Coaching, mentoring, and skills development.
A strong culture of:
- Accountability
- Documentation discipline
- Compliance awareness
- Service excellence.
- Build bench strength and succession capability within the electrical function.
- Contractor & Service Provider Oversight
- Manage external electricians, MV specialists, and service providers.
Ensure:
- SLA compliance.
- Quality standards.
- Proper handover documentation and CoC issuance.
- Prevent any contractor work from being signed off without:
- Full compliance validation
- Complete technical and legal records.
Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with:
- Estate Maintenance
- Hospitality Operations
- Farming Operations
- Infrastructure & Projects
- Risk & Compliance
- Provide technical input into:
- Estate planning
- Capital works
- Energy resilience strategies
- Electrical risk mitigation.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCES:
- Trade qualification: Electrician (Red Seal or equivalent).
- Master Electrician Certification.
- Wireman’s Licence.
- MV authorisation and competency certification.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Registration with relevant statutory/professional bodies.
- Minimum 8 years’ electrical experience.
- At least 3 years in a senior or supervisory role.
- Proven experience managing:
- Electrical projects
- MV/LV infrastructure
- Compliance and CoCs
- Teams in complex environments (estate, hospitality, agriculture, infrastructure).
- Demonstrated accountability for governance, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance.
