Senior Plumber

The Senior Plumber is the accountable owner for plumbing projects, plumbing compliance and plumbing maintenance across the Boschendal’s estate. The role ensures reliable infrastructure, disciplined project delivery, full regulatory compliance (including Certificates of Compliance), and effective leadership of the plumbing team—whether work is executed in-house or through external service providers.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDES BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

• Plumbing Infrastructure & Maintenance Management
  • Oversee all plumbing systems across hospitality, farming, rentals, and commercial properties.
  • Ensure bulk water supply, reticulation, irrigation connections, and waste-water systems are maintained and fit for purpose.

  Full Accountability for Plumbing Projects/ Works

  • Act as project owner for all plumbing projects, including:
  • Upgrades, refurbishments, and new installations.
  • Emergency remediation and infrastructure stabilisation.

  Be accountable for:

  • Scope definition and technical standards.
  • Cost control and budget adherence.
  • Delivery timelines and quality assurance.
  • Coordinate internal teams, engineers, and contractors to ensure plumbing projects are delivered safely, compliantly, and to Boschendal standards.
  • Ensure all plumbing works align with estate infrastructure plans and water risk management strategies.

  Technical Delivery

  • Executing plumbing installations, repairs, upgrades, and maintenance in line with:
    • South African plumbing regulations
    • Municipal by-laws
    • Boschendal technical standards
    • Ensuring workmanship meets professional and safety standards at all times.

  Compliance & Certificates of Compliance (CoCs)

  • Issuing or arranging valid Certificates of Compliance (CoCs) for all qualifying plumbing work performed directly.
  • Ensuring that:
    • All installations and alterations are compliant.
    • CoCs are legally valid and auditable.
    • Updating the estate’s Plumbing CoC Register and asset records for all self-executed works.

   

  Documentation, Records & Systems Accountability

  • The Senior Plumber is accountable for disciplined documentation and data integrity, including:
  • Plumbing asset registers and infrastructure records.
    • Preventative maintenance schedules and service histories.
  • Work orders and project records in Snapfix / ERP systems.
  • As-built drawings, warranties, and operating manuals.
  • COC register.
  • Preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance documentation.
  • All plumbing activities must be logged, tracked, and closed with complete technical notes and sign-off.

  Plumbing Team Leadership & Management

  • The Senior Plumber leads and manages the plumbing team and is accountable for:
  • Workforce planning, task allocation, and daily operational leadership.
  • Performance management, including quality of workmanship, productivity, and safety standards.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and skills development of team members.
  • Ensuring the team operates with a strong culture of:
    • Documentation discipline.
    • Compliance awareness.
    • Service excellence.
  • Building bench strength and succession capability within the plumbing function.

  Contractor & Service Provider Oversight

  • Manage external plumbers, contractors, and service providers.
  • Ensure:
    • SLA compliance.
    • Quality standards.
    • Proper handover documentation and CoC issuance.
  • Prevent any contractor work from being signed off without full compliance and record completion.

  Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with:
  • Estate Maintenance
  • Hospitality Operations
  • Farming & Irrigation
  • Infrastructure & Projects
  • Risk & Compliance
  • Provide technical input into estate planning, capital works, and water-related risk mitigation.

   

  QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCES:

  • Trade qualification: Licensed Plumber (Red Seal or equivalent).
  • Registration with the relevant plumbing body (e.g., PIRB).
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Additional certification in water systems, sanitation, or compliance advantageous.
  • Minimum 8 years’ plumbing experience.
  • At least 3 years in a senior or supervisory role.
  • Proven experience managing plumbing projects and teams in complex environments (estate, hospitality, agriculture, or infrastructure).
  • Demonstrated accountability for compliance, CoCs, and governance
